Episode 33 ‘’come on man you can’t leave me hanging without at least telling me the reason you said Jessica is much safer in Abuja than in my home?’’ I tried one more time to persuade Henry to open up to me, as I got up to leave after spending hours with him in the hospital. Episode 32 ‘’so tell me, why are you so keen to know if your supposed friend is dead or alive?’’ the officer asked once again, fixing his trained eyes on me to read my body language. I scoffed and relaxed. ‘’he’s my friend and I have every right to know’’ I answered calmly. ‘’so what exactly is the reason why you left town on Saturday?’’ he asked seriously. ‘’my wife is heavily pregnant and I occasionally visit to check up on her just like I did last Saturday’’ I answered. ‘’so why isn’t she living with you?’’ he asked, making me a bit uncomfortable with the question. I breathed deeply and kept quiet for some seconds. ‘’it’s a private matter and I’m saying nothing else unless you tell me the reason you invited me to your office’’ I answered bravely. ‘’hmmm’ the detective breathed, nodding slowly. ‘’your friend was shot on Friday evening, immediately you left his hotel. Episode 31 I forced out a smile, drew closer to Jessica and helped her sit on the bed. She stared at me anxiously, not knowing what to expect. I clasped her hands with mine and looked into her eyes. ‘’it was the police that called. You see my friend Henry was shot last night and I was the last person seen with him. I could as well be a suspect who knows’’ I explained slowly. She gasped with fear while i smiled to reassure her. ‘’Henry actually has been helping me to unravel several mysteries concerning comfort. He’s been quite helpful’’ I explained, taking my time to tell her about the new DNA test, the unexpected result and how I passed out in comfort’s apartment the night she called. Episode 30 My mother gave me a piece of her mind when I returned home that fateful morning. She wasted no time in telling me how disappointed and angry she was with me. ‘’your wife called me three times last night, crying so miserably. I just didn’t know what to tell her. Tell me what on earth happened?, why did you chose spending last night with Comfort’’ she asked after scolding me. I shook my head and headed to my room, saying nothing to her. Of course I knew how badly I messed up my relationship with my wife. I equally didn’t know what exactly Comfort said to her nor the tone she used. I felt very bad about the whole thing and I really had a hard time controlling my nervousness. For one whole week, Jessica refused speaking to me nor answering my messages. I equally tried reaching out to her mother who also refused listening to me. I was left with no choice than to prepare for a journey to the capital city to see my dear wife once again. Episode 29 I headed straight to Henry’s hotel as soon as I left the hospital. I really felt so bad and ashamed of myself. I regretted ever doubting Comfort. I regretted the cold manner I dragged her and our little child to the hospital without any consideration. I just didn’t know how to face the poor girl nor my future or what direction my life was even heading. Henry expertly guessed that all wasn’t right as soon as he saw me in his hotel that fateful evening. He quickly led me to a quiet corner and ordered for drinks. For the first time in my life I took three bottles of beer. I just wasn’t alright in any way. My conscience wouldn’t let me be. Episode 28 ‘’so what are you going to do now?’’ Henry asked quietly. ‘’seriously with this news, I now believe everything about that d--n girl are all lies. For her to keep such minor information from me means she has been keeping away a lot more from me’’ I breathed painfully. ‘’if you want, I can arrange for you to meet another doctor. You know a second medical opinion will be good for you’’ he asked. ‘’yea of course, that will be great’’ I accepted. ‘’I have a doctor friend. He attended the same university with us. I will talk to him tonight, by tomorrow we will go meet him’’ he offered, while I smiled in appreciation. ‘’please just calm down, don’t over react until we are sure of what we are dealing with. Episode 27 Early the next day, comfort got set to leave my house with her mother and our baby. She shed few tears as I took her belongings to my car. To be sincere, she really looked so terrible even though she tried very hard to appear calm. If she really was faking it all, then she was such a pretty good actor because I was totally convinced that she had my best interest in all she was doing. ‘’seriously, I’m going to miss your home. I have gotten used to it’’ she breathed with tears as she threw herself on me. I held her softly, a bit confused on the right words to say. ‘’your new apartment has everything you can ever wish for. You are going to be more free and happy over there. Episode 26 ‘’why?, why are you doing this?’’ Comfort slowly asked, tears quickly formed in her eyes as if I just slapped her. I was surprised by her sudden change of mood, but it didn’t change my mindset. ‘’I’m doing it because It’s the right thing to do. You are not my wife and I don’t love you. Episode 25 4pm, Caleb’s Apartment ‘’my God I can’t believe you went against my wish. I cant believe you got that girl back to my house. What’s wrong with you?, why are you so hell bent in making me suffer?” Jessica cried over the phone immediately after I confessed that comfort was back in the house with me. I just couldn’t utter anything to defend myself. I simply went dumb while she cried, cursed and swore at me. I deserved every tantrum she threw but to be honest no one will really understand the difficult position I was in. Episode 23 Minutes later at a Restaurant close to the university, I reluctantly shared all I have been through to Henry who listened with great attention. My mind however relaxed as I shared my fears, story and feelings to him. It really felt good sharing my problems with a friend, something I had yearned to do for a long time. ‘’so my brother, that’s my story. I’m now standing between the devil and his fire. I so much want to be with my wife but it isn’t possible at the moment and comfort so much wants to be with me against my happiness. I love my wife so much but I just had to sacrifice many things to survive. It’s really not as if I intentionally decided to avoid you but the thing is that I messed up big time. I’m still ashamed of myself. How can I face my friends or old pals with such a story?. Episode 22 Comfort noticed the frown on my face the moment my eyes fell on her mother. I greeted the old woman politely and dashed into my room with anger. she followed me, looking very remorseful. ‘’what’s your mother doing here?’’ I asked angrily. Episode 21 “my love” I breathed, holding Jessica’s hands. She scoffed and drew back, fixed her hair and got up. “I now get it, you never planned sending that girl away because she got your job back for you” she hissed, and headed to the bathroom. I breathed deeply and fell back on the bed. Yea I definitely had to come up with something to reassure and put her mind at ease. Episode 20 “mum i think that should wait until i get back from the capital city. I have lots of things going on in my head right now. Of course she had no power to do such thing. By 7pm, i was in my wife’s family Residence in Abuja and what a happy moment it was for me as my lovely wife threw herself on me with so much joy and happiness....

Episode 19 The senator was impressed when i broke the news to him. I really was overly excited as we talked on phone. “that’s great news boy. I will try read the paper this morning. Relax and prepare yourself to return to your job” he promised and hung up. “i pray he helps. Seriously” Comfort muttered, breaking into my thoughts. I shrugged and said nothing. _________ It really was a very nervous wait as the week went by without any news from the senator. However the following Monday brought the much needed news to me. Episode 18 I headed back to my apartment with a more relaxed mind, invited Mr Moses {the press guy) and spent the rest of the morning, rehearsing and polishing up my story with Comfort. Comfort however was overly helpful. She did contribute her best in making the clumsy story a believable one. “i hope things work out fine for you” she breathed with a sweet smile. The interview was quite a long one. Comfort really did her best. She never stammered and acted overly cool and wonderful.
