E PISODE 13 She found her way into the company’s crowded car park. There were a lot of cars which signified that many of the staff were still in the building.  It was a Friday, several offices often close late. She was grateful that her boss didn’t demand extra working hours from them, as long as they completed their weekly assignments. Any delay was usually countered by several sleepless nights. She sighted her car and quickened her steps. The evening breeze soothed her achy bones. She hoped to have a restful weekend. It had been a stressful week. She might end up staying indoors or probably drive to the beach and watch a movie or two at the Galleria. She wasn’t sure what she would do, but she hoped to relax and recuperate. She needed enough strength and a stable mind to face the upcoming week. “Promise… Promise!” The sound of her name interrupted her line of thoughts. “Promise please wait.” She halted and looked back. Episode 11 Gift and Promise found a comfortable spot and sat on the semi-white sand. “What do you think?” She used her shoulder to nudge her. “I agree, the air is fresher than the one in my bedroom.” Gift started to laugh and Promise joined her. Two young men walked up to them and asked if they wanted to buy drinks and roasted fish or chicken. They declined and watched them as they went after another potential customer. Promise sighted a fair tall figure walking past them and recognition hit her. She sucked in a deep breath and squeezed one of her sister’s hand. Gift saw her sister’s ghostly expression and followed her gaze. Her brows came together in a frown when she saw Gbenga. “Talk about the devil.” “We shouldn’t have come here.” Gift eyed her, “Kuramo beach is a public place.” “You don’t understand,” her voice shook. “Yes, I do. The fact that both of you frequent here often doesn’t mean that you have to avoid this place.” She let go of her hand and fol...

Episode 10 She swallowed hard and tried to steady her trembling body. She had fallen in love with him and she knew how much he loved her, but, she had not expected him to propose so soon. Was he really serious? ‘God is this really happening?’ “Promise will you marry me?” He went down on one knee and brought out a golden ring from his pocket. Her heart melted when she saw the ring. She glanced back at him and nodded several times. “Yes, Gbenga. I would love to spend the rest of my life with you.” He rose and swept her off her feet. Osagie and his family sat outside the house eating roasted corn and boiled pear. Prince and Gift had returned home that weekend for the August/September holiday. Episode 9 Dark clouds began to gather; the air thickened with moisture and dust. Lightning flashed and thunder struck, followed by icy droplets of rain. Promise stood at the entrance of the supermarket and shivered. She clutched at her shopping bags, wishing she had come in her car. ‘How was I supposed to know that it would rain today?’ She lamented. Her father’s house was a street away but she couldn’t walk home in the rain. She would definitely catch a cold. A tall figure breezed past her but she paid no attention to the person. Her mind was wrapped up her predicament. May be she would stop a taxi. Although she might be charged unfairly, trust Lagos taxi drivers, she had no other choice. “Promise, Promise Daodu.” The sound of her name drew her out of her thoughts. She shifted her gaze and noticed the fair in complexion man standing beside her. Recognition hit her. Her pause quickened and her mouth went dry. “Hi, are you about to leave?” She nodded and held his gaze....

Episode 8 Promise unlocked the gate, opened it and got back into the car. She drove into her father’s compound, parked the car and alighted from it again. She closed the gate, Locked it and dragged her weary self into the house. Her parents and siblings would be back from work in the evening. That leaved her about three hours of loneliness before they returned. She had a quick bath and made her way into the large kitchen. She needed something to eat. What could she prepare under ten minutes? She settled for indomie noodles and fried plantain. In fifteen minutes, she walked into the sitting room with a plate of indomie noodles, garnished with fried plantain and accompanied with a chicken lap. She placed the plate and her glass of chilled coca cola drink on the centre table and sat on the rug. She searched for the television remote, found it on one of the chairs, switched it on and settled to enjoy her well prepared meal. At half past ten that night, Promise went to see her p...
