Accepting my mistakes chapter three
ACCEPTING – MY – MISTAKES (( 3 ))
I was getting due for marriage but I had no serious relationship. This wasbecoming a threat to me and my mom too.One day, mother came home with a good news.”Wo, Oko mi, God has decided to answer our prayers……you know how I’ve been going up and down to various mountains, just for you to have acrown on your head, God has done it, in fact in a marvellous way….. You know one woman that saw is together at your cousins wedding? I met her today….. She said she had wanted to see me…. She told me her cousin that is in US wants to get married but he doesn’t want to o get married to all those mannerless girls over there, so he wants to come home and and get married to a courteous lady….. So she said she told him about you that you are beautiful and courteous and you will make a good wife….. So she demands that you take a picture and then send it tohim abroad…… She said she will give you his pictures too and then link both of you so you can be communicating….. Can’t you see God is wonderful?I waited for her to finish her story. I was happy on one side but on the other side, something told me something is not right. This is an arranged relationship, with somebody I’ve not set my eyes on. How would I be sure if he is someone I would love to spend the rest of my lifewith? We would start relationship based on pictures? But on the other hand, time was no longer on my side. I was 32. My younger brother who was 29 had started making his wedding plans. My sister too, who was just 26 was ready. I wondered how I was going to take it of both of themget married before me, I wouldn’t be able to stand the shame.”Mummy, are you sure this thing will work out”? I murmured”It will work out in Jesus name, in fact, it has worked out….. It is a finished work my dear…. I see God connecting you to your husband.” She said excitedly.Well, this guy is based in US, he is definitely going to take care of me. I would also become an American citizen, what more could I have asked for? Finally I was going to be called ‘Mrs’. I couldn’t wait to get hooked up with this American guy.I went to a Make-over shop to get myself made-up. Then, I went to a good photo studio to snap a digital photograph, nicely edited. No one would see it and not call me a beautiful princess. The picture was sent tohim on social media, facebook precisely. He loved it so much and then we hooked up on facebook.Seeing his picture on facebook, though he looks somehow old but he is not bad. We started chatting on social media and in no time, we started talking about marriage.Wale told me he might not come to Nigeria until our wedding day. This was not really good enough. How would I be setting my eyes on myhusband for the first time, on my wedding day?Well, I had no choice. He was this bossy and a commander. He hates to be corrected and whatever he says would be the final. No going back.I was going to get married to him anyways, I hoped things would changeafter marriage and he would begin to reason with me.He told me he wanted a low-key wedding and he would prefer it to be a court wedding.I knew Wale was not a serious Christian but how was that supposed to affect my marriage? I was neither one myself.Wedding preparations was going on. The wedding was about four months to the time I met Wale. Everybody in the neighbourhood knew I was getting married to a ‘Londoner’. Mother had exposed everything beyond thoughts. She could not hide her pride and wanted to show neighbors that at last, I was getting married.Wale came to Nigeria a day before the wedding but I was only able to set my eyes on him on the wedding day.
